TreatAnySoldier is an effort to bring some of the comforts of home to our military men & women serving in the War on Terrorism.
Due to overwhelming requests for ready-made care packages on the AnySoldier.com site, I started a separate effort and designed care packages that I actually sent to my son while he was in Iraq and now Afghanistan.
Through trial and error (and a lot of feedback from my son and his friends) I learned what TO send and what NOT to send. |
"Hello,
My name is TSgt Richard T. Kaminsky, and I am serving in Iraq at Forward Operating Base Warrior, in Kirkuk. I just wanted to email you and let you know that my team and I received a package today through "treat any soldier.com" from your daughter, in your honor. My team and I wanted to pass on our graditude to your company and especially Mr Harold Spaulding for your commitment and his generosity, and for remembering us folks overseas. We appreciate it very much! The package contained a variety of different cookies including "Almond Joy" cookies, those turned out to be the favorite of our team. As a personal thanks, we took group photograph today holding the package sent in your name, which I have attached. We are standing in front of one of our JERRVs (Joint Explosive Ordnance Disposal Rapid Response Vehicle)"

HOUSTON, Dec. 14, 2007 During a season when everyone is asked to give to various causes and organizations, Houstonians have shown that our troops stationed overseas still hold priority in their hearts and minds by donating more than $240,000 to Kroger Food Store's "Holiday for the Troops" in-store donation program.
In the holiday spirit of generosity, Kroger, in partnership with AnySoldier.com and KPRC 2, gave customers the chance to donate funds to members of the Armed Forces who aren't able to be with their families this holiday season. The program, which included all Houston-area Kroger stores, raised an astounding six figures to surpass the organizations' initial goal of raising $30,000. All funds raised will go toward the purchasing of items requested by the soldiers, including food, calling cards and health and hygiene products. The program, which began on Nov. 4 and concluded on Dec. 8, was such a success that it was extended to include the first week of December.
"This massive show of support is an amazing display of the true nature of Kroger and their shoppers," said Any Soldier Inc. President Marty Horn. "To have almost 10 times the projected support given to the troops is a testament to the outstanding folks in Texas and Louisiana. The troops are already aware of what you have done, and I assure you that their moral has improved knowing just how much you care. Thank you, very much, for your support."
"This was an amazing opportunity for us to partner with AnySoldier.com and KPRC 2 and give our customers the opportunity to support our troops overseas to ensure that they're remembered this holiday season," said President of Kroger's Southwest Division Bill Breetz.

Response from the Kroger Packages:
"Thank you for the package. You all need to teach everyone else how to pack a care package. You all know what the soldier likes to snack on. These packages were the talk of the day." Read more of what the troops say HERE. |
